Today I have the privilege of being a guest-writer over at (in)Courage, a warm and wonderful part of the Daysprings website. If you’ve never visited, I hope you’ll head over today and join in the fun. (in)Courage is a place where sisters in Christ can be real, share their hearts, and…well…be Encouraged! Here is a little bit of my post there, I hope that you’ll follow me over and read the rest….
Out of Ashes
I am standing in the house that’s been in my family for these three decades and some change, in the town that formed my formative years. We’ve traveled here to sell the house, to say goodbye. This will be the last time we will stay here. The last time I will sip coffee while standing at the window, looking out on the neighborhood where my small feet passed daily, where I learned to ride my bike, where I pulled a rusty red wagon and played tag and scraped my knees. The last time I will have something firm and tangible to tie me to the town I called home….
Won’t you pop over to (in)Courage and read the rest of the story? I know you’ll enjoy your visit there!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful words at (in) courage today. I felt as though I was there with you! And I love that He used your legacy to show you that He is already rebuilding what life has burned away!
Blessings!
Thanks for sharing your story! My husband is the one that I want to honor today he is a Pastor that has just been dismissed from a church that he has poured his life into for six years. The fire is still burning here it will be put out, wounds will be bound, God will provide a healing balm and some day we and the church will see what the new growth is from this time of despair.

Jo, I’m sorry that this is happening now…what a blow. I know God has plans even for this, praying for peace beyond all reason and that you will see the green shoots of new growth very soon. ((hugs))
I found your post through a Tweet @MaxLucado being on Incourage today. Your piece about your home & the family that imploded there resonates with me although my family has continued to implode in stages over the years. Now it’s just me and my mother & as when I was 12, and we role reversed, I am still her caregiver.
God blessed me with the gift of grace from His Son, Jesus Christ. He has also blessed me with an amazing husband and stepson and glorious church family. I truly stand in awe of Him.
Wishing you all God’s blessings,
Brenda Coffee
Even as I leave this comment my heart aches over the loss of your childhood home. I lost my home last year after years of hard work, sweat, blood, and tears. It was a hard earned dream that blew away like dry particles of clay in the wind. The house was used to minister to others and I so miss using my gift of hospitality. While I don’t know your exact pain, please know there are others who can empathize with you and connect with your message.
Dear friend, I am heading over there in a bit. What a blessing that so many will be touched by your heart and love today. An encouragement, indeed.
Sharing the loss with you this season.
Blessings.
Thank you so much for sharing your story over at (in) courage — it made a huge impact on me this morning, as we trudge through ashes toward hope.
